Acoustics and the Xbox – the need to design Kinect to work in living rooms

This article on Digital Journal is essentially an advertisement for Vicoustic, a company that makes acoustical panels (diffusers, absorbers, etc). But they’re helping out with an interesting problem – that of the Xbox Kinect system and its determination of voice commands in a wide variety of environments and with varying amounts of background noise. It’d be interesting to know how they are dealing with noise or imperfect signals, and how robust the system is in detecting and deciphering voices in people’s living rooms.
